Dutton Island Paddling Race
On Saturday, November 8th, 2008, the Public Trust and its partners celebrated the release of the Jacksonville Intracoastal Salt marsh paddling Guide with a paddling race at Dutton Island Preserve.  Close to 50 racers came together to compete in a 5-mile race through the Dutton Island Preserve and down the Intracoastal Waterway on kayaks and canoes.  Ken Holton of Orange Park won the race on his kayak followed by John McNeil in second and Greg Bailey in third.  Libby Taylor was the first woman across the finish line and the tandem team of Henry Legett and Luke Kendalls were the first to finish the loop in a canoe.  All the racers received free paddling guides, t-shirts, bags, and icey treats from Rita’s, but the winners were awarded with gift certificates and other prizes provided by Kayak Adventures and Black Creek Outfitters.  The Public Trust would like to thank all of the participants, sponsors, and volunteers who made the event such a success.  Please check back here for information on possible future events.
